Warsaw or “Warszawa” in Polish is the capital and the largest city of Poland. Situated on the Vistula River (Wisla in Polish), historic references of the city date back to as early as the 14th and 15th century when Warsaw replaced Krakow to be the capital of the commonwealth and also the crown of the Kingdom of Poland. After a spate of foreign rule by leaders like Napoleon Bonaparte and countries like Russia, Warsaw finally gained its independence in 1918. With the entry of German Nazis in 1939 during WWII, followed by the deportation and massacre of Jews in concentration camps and the total demolishment of the entire city, Warsaw city was built again to recover its lost glory. The city thus acquired the title of ‘phoenix city’ after surviving so many wars and still standing strong as a cultural, economic and prominent tourist hub in Europe. Today, Warsaw is a city with a thriving music and club scene, brimming with several street fests, music festivals, engaging art exhibitions, museums, picturesque parks and beaches, and more. You can find many places to visit in Warsaw.
